The original musical, Matteo Ricci, was a sold-out event at its premiere. Matteo Ricci - and legend is his name - was listed in Life Magazine’s 100 People Who Made the Millennium (1000-1999). Young Matteo sailed across the oceans to China, for his missionary work. What greeted him was hostility fuelled by misunderstanding. The musical tells the story of how Matteo faced conflicting Chinese and Western customs. Enveloped by hostility, he struggled alone through dark times in this Eastern nation, establishing the Matteo Ricci's Method, which combined elements of both Chinese and Western cultures.
